For virtually all of his career, Jett Lawrence has had the momentum in his corner, until his injury outdoors he was undefeated in a championship on a 450 and had won for two years previous to that on a 250!

Jett Lawrence was a winning machine but now things have change, this time it is Jett coming off an injury and Chase Sexton on a high with his outdoor title – but both will feel like they are the man to beat.

So can Jett take away Sexton’s momentum in SMX heading in supercross in 2025? This is a position Jett has not been in in his career to this point and with Tomac, Roczen and Webb also back it will be the deepest field in AMA racing since the first half of the supercross season but this time Sexton is coming in believing he is better than ever.

Speaking in the KTM press conference, a confident Sexton: “It’s a different version of myself and the guy that was out there last year is not the same kind of race this year. So, yeah, we’re going to find out in a few weeks and SMX obviously at the different series, but yeah, I’m excited. I think this outdoor series, like I said, has allowed me to unlock that new level for me. And I think a lot of people knew I could get there. It just took a longer, longer road than we all planned. So, yeah, I’m excited and it’s going to be a different story come next year for sure. But, yeah, I’m just ready to go out there and battle up everyone.”

All this as Jett is in a race to get his best form back: “It’s been awesome being back on the bike,” said Lawrence when talking with Jason Weigandt in an interview during the last National of the year at Ironman. “We had to start on the rut track for a few days, felt great, then went to the outdoor track…and I didn’t realise how hard dirt bikes actually are!

“We are getting there, trying to get the balance, my head and my eye speed are two different levels right now! I’m thinking of what I need to do and my eyes and everything is coming fast. I’m glad to be back on the bike and be back on a schedule again. And the ride the 2025 Honda, it’s been awesome, I’m going to do some testing next week and hopefully we come into SMX going crazy!

“Would I like more time before SMX? Of course I would, everyone wants more time but we got dealt with the six weeks and thankfully after six weeks we were back on the bike. Surprisingly, it wasn’t painful at all. We did a lot of therapy those first two weeks, spent a lot of time out in California with Doc G, and getting that full range of motion back and it cut the healing down a lot.

“We have two weeks until SMX. This week was my first week back on the outdoor track so we are looking forward to it. Makes it exciting for me, back to getting that adrenalin on race day.”
