Official: Kay de Wolf signs multi-year contract to remain with Nestaan Husqvarna

One of the biggest stories on the MXGP rider market has now been settled. Kay de Wolf will continue his MXGP career with Nestaan Husqvarna after extending his contract on a multi-year deal with the team managed by Rasmus Jorgensen. The announcement comes ahead of this weekend’s MXGP World Championship round taking place at Lommel.

As he approaches his 22nd birthday, De Wolf has opted for stability as he plans the next chapter of his career. It is a logical decision for the 2024 MX2 World Champion, who stepped up to MXGP this season and has been part of the Husqvarna family for the past eight seasons, from his early days in the EMX125 Championship through to the premier class.

The Dutchman’s performances have certainly not gone unnoticed in the paddock. Despite a rookie MXGP campaign disrupted by several injuries — first one thumb, then the other, before suffering an ankle injury — De Wolf quickly proved he has what it takes to fight at the front of the premier class, already claiming two podium finishes, one in Sardinia and another in Latvia.

The contract extension is also a major boost for Husqvarna, who have secured one of the most promising talents of his generation. The manufacturer has supported De Wolf since his European Championship days and has invested heavily in his progression with the aim of building its future in the FIM Motocross World Championship.

While Husqvarna’s official factory programmes are set to disappear from the AMA championships at the end of the current season, the brand will continue to have a factory presence in the MXGP Motocross World Championship through the Nestaan programme in both MX2 and MXGP in 2027. The arrangement also allows team owner Kay Hennekens to retain control of his sporting project while operating with a greater degree of independence from the other teams within the Austrian group.

For De Wolf, the transition to MXGP remains a work in progress. His adaptation to the premier class has been slowed by injuries, but there has never been any doubt about his talent. Now armed with a multi-year contract and surrounded by the people he knows best, the Dutchman has the stability needed to continue his development and establish himself among the elite.
