Chase Sexton spoke to Lisa Leyland about a rare visit to MXGP and what he learned from the sand King, Jeffrey Herlings, as the Kawasaki rider continues his rehab from his ACL injury.
Chase said: “It’s a bit different (to the USA) because it’s sandy and I wanted to come obviously to support Tom, but also learn some some new things. So it’s cool. Unfortunately, (his season) came to a premature end even before the ACL, it wasn’t going very good, only two wins this year, but yeah, had a crash in Thunder Valleyn tore the ACL, and now we’re just in recovery.
“So Tom (Vialle) invited me to come out and come to Europe which I’ve only been…this is my third time, so enjoying it, and everyone’s been super, super nice and it’s been really fun so far. So yeah, just trying to heal up and get ready for 2027.
Sexton also compared see Lommel during the week and this weekend’s MXGP at Arnhem to US tracks, admitting: “Nothing like the US! It’s a bit different, so that’s why I said that I wanted to come here and try and learn some things. I’ll be obviously watching Jeffrey and Kay ride, it’s very impressive. So I was had my eyes peeled yesterday and today as well, so yeah, nothing like the US and definitely a lot of different racing.”
Sexton said of watching Herlings: “Jeffrey makes the track like one big supercross track.
It is a rhythm all the way around and it’s very impressive to watch. It looks if you watch him ride, the track looks really enjoyable, but for some other guys, not so much! So it’s it’s cool and yeah, I take it back, so when I get back riding (in the US) try and implement some of those things.“
