It was the battle of the Lawrence brothers for the 2026 450 Pro Motocross title at Ironman and, after a wacky day for both, it was Hunter who ended up winning the title despite ending up on the deck thanks to Haiden Deegan’s own crash in race one then a tip-over in race two!
Jett Lawrence battled a sore ankle all day after tweaking his already injured right foot but fought hard even in race two despite the pain and came up just two points short in a historic season.
This is what both boys had to say immediately after the race:
Hunter Lawrence: “I don’t even know where to start. First lap in the first moto, I was like, ‘here we go again.’ Thanks to the whole team for being behind us. I knew I had to finish right behind Jett. Most of my work was done in the first moto. He has been a trooper with that foot and tweaked it in the first moto on the first lap, he’s in some pain, I hurt my wrist. It was a tough day for the Lawrences.”
Jett Lawrence: “It’s a new feeling for me getting second in the championship, but I mean, I put my heart into it today. It was just an off day. I tweaked my foot so many times in the practice and in that first race, so it was a bummer. I tried my best that second one, but I was just finished, but no, Hunter rode unreal this year. He was the main guy. I tried my best to try and get him, but I just couldn’t get it done. Maybe I should have put some laxative in his coffee this morning, might have helped! But no, it was a good season. I can’t be too bummed out. For what I’m going through, I’m very happy still, and yeah, congratulations, HJ.
Jett was asked if he would still be able to race the SMX playoffs after hurting his ankle again but he isn’t sure what happens from here: “We’ll see. We’ll let you know on that. As of right now, we’re just going to enjoy this, enjoy it with my brother.”
