Jeffrey Herlings wasn’t totally happy with his feeling in the sand at the start of the season on the Honda but now with months of sand riding under his belt and changes to the machine, the MXGP championship leader is buzzing ahead of the iconic Lommel GP.
Herlings said in the Honda press release: “Lommel is kind of a home GP for me, so it’s good to be heading there. I’ve obviously had a lot of good times there, with a lot of victories, so I’m going to be working hard to add 2026 to the list.
“We’ve done a lot of testing in the sand since the beginning of the year, because I think I’ve mentioned that was where improvements needed to be made. Now is the time to go out there and show what we’ve done and try and make it three wins in a row.”
With Lucas Coenen riding injured and just hoping to be able to race, it could be down to Herlings countryman, Kay de Wolf, to give Herlings a run for his money in the sand but you can’t rule out Romain Febvre in the soft stuff or Tim Gajser. Either way, Herlings will go into the toughest race on the planet as favourite to win and extend his championship lead as he eyes his best chance in years to win his sixth world title.
