A crash in race one just when he was putting on a late race charge to get on the imperious Lucas Coenen’s rear wheel meant Herlings was forced to accept a second place in the opening moto with all the focus on moto two to win the overall.
But another average start, around the top five with Lucas Coenen out front again, meant Herlings had to push hard to get into second past Vialle and Febvre but, yet again, with five minutes to go Herlings got himself within 2.5 second of Coenen until a big moment made him reconsider his options!
Herlings said: “First moto I was putting in the charge and I crashed all by myself. I landed and high-sided, could have been way worse. Second moto again, I was putting in a charge the last ten minutes and managed to pass Romain and then on the inside on/off and outside triple, man, I almost went over the bars and almost saw Jesus above me! I almost had a massive one and managed to not crash so I said,’okay, my luck is over for the day.’ So I just cruised.”
