Preview: Mountain Quarter MX set for stacked Irish Championship finale

The Irish Championship heads to Mountain Quarter MX this weekend for the final round of the series, with an exciting weekend of racing in store and plenty of talent travelling across the water to shake things up.

For the Irish fans, it will be a great opportunity to see a number of top riders compete in Northern Ireland, with a stacked entry list set to provide plenty of entertainment across the weekend.

Taylor Hammal will be one of the biggest names in attendance, with the DRT Kawasaki rider returning to a track where he enjoyed a hugely successful outing last year.

Hammal was on fire at Mountain Quarter MX in 2025, winning every race, and after being selected to represent Team GB at the upcoming Motocross des Nations, he will be looking to enjoy another strong weekend of racing.

“I am really looking forward to heading back over again. It was a fun weekend last year at an old school style track that I really enjoyed riding on. It was a good turnout with a laid back attitude so I am looking forward to having a good go at it again this weekend. I haven’t been riding much since coming back from my collarbone so will just take it as it comes”, Hammal told GateDrop.com.

Alongside Hammal, a host of other riders from across the water will make the trip, including Josh Gilbert, Jamie Keith, Charlie Richmond, Adam Sterry, Ollie Colmer, Hayden Statt, Tristan Purdon, Brad Todd, Carlton Husband and Ben Edwards.

They will be joined by a strong group of local riders, including Jason Meara, Glenn McCormick, Martin Barr, Lennox Dickinson, Jordan Scott and James Mackrel, ensuring the final round will feature a seriously stacked line-up.

However, the weekend isn’t just about the star names, as there is also a championship to be decided. Nathan Green and Niall Cregan head into the final round tied on points, setting up a winner-takes-all battle for the Irish Championship crown.

The pair found themselves in a similar situation last year, with Cregan ultimately coming out on top to claim the title. This time around, Green will be hoping to reverse the result and get the job done.

“I am really looking forward to racing Saul. It will be cool to try and mix it up with the English guys that are coming over. Mark, Joe and all the boys do a fantastic job every year. Hopefully the weather is on our side. It’s been great racing all year and it’s cool going into the last round tied on points. It makes it a bit more exciting so we will just take it as it comes and go from there”, Green told GateDrop.com.

With a championship on the line and a host of big-name riders making the trip across the water, the final round at Mountain Quarter MX promises to be one of the most exciting events of the Irish Championship season.

The youth and support classes will take place on Saturday, with the main championship action taking place on Sunday.
