Cole Davies: “I want to break some records”

Cole Davies is the next superstar talent that looks like he ticks every box needed to be a legendary champion of the sport with the mindset to match.

Davies technique is incredibly good and he had a great schooling with countryman Ben Townley on and off the bike on what it takes to win. Davies clearly listened and seems to have an ability to learn quickly, as impressive as his on-bike technique is, his mental poise might be even more impressive.

His character and mindset are eerily similar to Chad Reed, self-belief abounding backed up by brilliant technical skills and the ability to perform under pressure no matter how intense the circumstance. Davies wasn’t fancied by many to win outdoors, but he believed in himself and did what he had to do.  In Supercross he had the pressure of everyone expecting him to win and also dealt with that to win the title.

In every scenario he wins and, let’s be honest, the 450 bike could suit him perfectly just like it did with Jett Lawrence because he is so smooth and technical.  2028 could be the year he moves up and instantly sets the cat amongst the pigeons. He is that good.

Davies has SMX for the next three weeks and if he wins that it will be a clean sweep for the year! The perfect season is three weeks away and he is confident enough in himself to believe he has more in the tank: “It’s my first full pro motocross season, so to accomplish this, I feel like it’s pretty big, ” said Davies after winning the title at Ironman. “I feel like there’s more to come, I want to break some records, and I just want to keep working at that, and just keep coming, and it’ll just be good.”

The ambition is there, the ability is there and ability to perform under extreme pressure is there, Davies has it all and if he can stay away from injury his ceiling is extremely high.

Chad Reed is also excited to see Cole on the 450 saying on the Title 24 Podcast:  “I mean, when you look at his skill set that he has on on Supercross, I think that all of that trends well to being a good, solid, 450 rider.

You know, he’s maybe more rounded as a Supercross rider than a Haiden Deegan. And we’ve seen what Haiden has achieved. And so I think the future for us as fans, I think Cole’s going to bring a lot to the table.”

And Ryan Villopoto explained just how quickly Cole learns when he worked with him briefly at Ben Townley’s request in California when he just moving to the States to make a name for himself : “Man, he picked it up really quickly on that blue groove. It was the whoops and the Dragon’s back that I really put a lot of emphasis on making sure that, you know, really understanding where to hit them, how to hit them, especially the Dragon’s back. But yeah, his future is very bright.”

With Lucas Coenen along with Sacha also moving to the US at just 19,  most of the top next gen talent will be battling on 450 in the USA in the next few years – and the other generational talent, Kay de Wolf, hasn’t ruled out moving Stateside in the future.  But they will all have to deal with Davies soon, including Deegan, Prado and the Lawrence brothers!
