Racestore KTM could be set for a return to the MX2 World Championship in 2027, with the Italian-based team understood to be looking at restructuring its operation and returning to the class where it has previously made its name.
The Italian based Racestore KTM team has shifted focus towards the European Championship in recent years. The team previously operated KTM’s official EMX125 factory structure for several seasons, enjoying considerable success in the class and even securing a championship with Nicolò Alvisi.
This season, the team has been competing in the EMX250 Championship with Andrea Roberti, continuing its presence on the European scene. However, we understand that plans are now in place for Racestore KTM to make a return to the MX2 World Championship next season.
Racestore KTM has previous experience in the class, having worked with riders including Jan Pancar, Yago Martinez and Samuel Nilsson during its time competing at World Championship level.
At this stage, it is understood that the team intends to run at least one rider in the MX2 World Championship in 2027, with the possibility of running two riders under the awning still being discussed.
It remains unclear whether Racestore KTM would contest the entire MX2 World Championship calendar, including the flyaway rounds, or instead focus primarily on the European-based events.
The 2027 MXGP calendar is expected to once again feature around 20 rounds, with six flyaway events, meaning a full World Championship campaign would represent a significant commitment for the team.
A return to the MX2 World Championship would represent an exciting new chapter for Racestore KTM and see the team return to the class where it has previously established itself.
