Jett Lawrence was not happy when he came off the bike despite winning the first moto after Hunter Lawrence’s bike stalled when dirt got in the chain guide.
Jett was incandescent with his foot injury in the ruts while Hunter was fuming at losing a race he should have won! Jett, who had been caught and passed by his brother said as he got off the bike: “I can’t f****** ride with one foot! I can’t f****** balance with it!”
In the press conference Jett elaborated saying: “Normally I really like these conditions and I can ride them well and it’s not like how I don’t lose at this out of nowhere and I just struggle with my foot today and trying to like be balanced, especially with these ruts that this muddy sand just pulls you in and obviously I have all my weight on my left foot so then coming in it just really makes it more drastic instead of being even so I just struggle all my balance stuff like that and I gave my foot a good few flex and stuff like that so this rough day in the office but we’ll go back and get better and try and be a little bit better for Southwick. Asked if his foot hurt Jett confirmed, “After the race it was pretty stiff and sore, so yeah.”
“Normally I weight the rear quite a lot and I just like I’m struggling to do that with one leg right now and coming into braking is where I really need it to like hold that rear in and I can’t get my knees back and brake as well. It’s just a bit of a struggle on this my behalf. It’s difficult because I’m trying to work it out myself but also like the team’s obviously helping in trying to make the bike that will make it a little easy on me as well.”
Hunter meanwhile said: “Gee, how many people have tracked down Jett and made the pass and put a gap on him? That in itself, I was extremely happy with. To have “won” the moto (first moto) and the thing that happened, I thought the bike stopped but a bunch of sand got blocked in the chain guide. On the live broadcast you could hear me get into the corner and get on the gas and then the rear wheel just stopped and cut out. That’s just the conditions were so damn tough. It could have happened to anyone with how deep, how heavy, factory 450 and second gear is lugging in a majority of the corners. I was super gutted after that first moto, I felt like I did everything right and to not get that win was a bummer.”
