Sexton on what it’s like to race Webb for a supercross title

While not impossible, Chase Sexton will probably need a little bad luck to happen with Cooper Webb in order to clinch his second supercross title and prevent Webb winnning his third. Sexton is nine points back as things stands and consequently needs Webb to finish fifth or worse if Sexton wins the 2025 supercross finale at Salt Lake City tomorrow night.

With all of that in mind, Sexton was reflective and complimentary on how tough Webb is to battle for a title but also how Webb has helped him improve as rider, regardless of the outcome tomorrow night.

Sexton said: “For me it has been a good year, compared to last year I have grown a lot. Last year, on a new bike, I only won two races and this year I am on six so far, we made a lot of progress. Racing Coop, it has been different than it’s been in the past. He is so mentally strong, he forces you to be perfect and that is something that, for me, I have struggled with in my career.

I think he has forced me to be better in that aspect and it’s been really good. I think I have got myself to a better point in my career as a rider and racer, so for me I am obviously in a little bit of a tough spot tomorrow night, but, either way, I am happy with how I have raced this year and the improvements I have made.”

We have of course seen Sexton be the beneficiary of unlikely circumstances before when Tomac tore his achilles a couple of years ago in Denver, so never say never, but this is Webb’s title to lose.
