The Coenen brothers on a podium in Portugal

The Coenen brothers, Lucas and Sacha, starred at Agueda for the Grand Prix of Portugal as 2026 MXGP tipped into the second half of the calendar. The Belgians took their Red Bull KTM machinery to podium results around the rapid layout and large jump sections of the clay-like terrain for round ten of the season.

Highlights and key moments from Agueda:

  • World championship leader Lucas Coenen wins a moto and then finishes 2nd to be runner-up overall in Portugal for his fifth consecutive podium finish and seventh trophy of the season
  • Sacha Coenen climbs the MX2 rostrum with 3rd on the day and for his fourth set of silverware in succession with the KTM 250 SX-F
  • Top ten rankings for Andrea Adamo (7th) in MXGP and Simon Laengenfelder (5th) in MX2
  • MXGP will change continent this week and will head to South Africa for the first time since 2008 with the journey to the Terra Topia circuit close to Johannesburg
Lucas Coenen, 1st and 2nd for 2nd overall in MXGP: “Consistency was key. I knew I’d won the Quali race and the first moto so the weekend was already good. I have to say that I’m a clean rider but I will also take any opportunities that are there. Overall, not bad. We’ll take the positives today and look on to South Africa next week.”

Andrea Adamo, 8th and 7th for 7th overall in MXGP: “I wanted more from this weekend but on Saturday morning I didn’t have the best feeling on the track. Nothing came easy and I was not riding like normal. It took a lot of energy to ride and hard to be smooth. It can happen! We always keep learning and the results were not too bad. We brought some points home. Our goal is to stay in the top five or a close as possible. Now we move on, South Africa next.”

Sacha Coenen, 6th and 2nd for 3rd overall in MX2A mistake in the first moto that messed up my weekend but…I took some good points. I know what happened: I went double-double and came up short. A stupid mistake and we’ll try to avoid another in South Africa.”

Simon Laengenfelder, 3rd and 6th for 5th overall in MX2: “We made some changes this week and tried to go back to my old set-up. It gave me some confidence and 3-3 with the Quali race and the first moto was not too bad. I wanted a bit more intensity and I missed some fire in that second race. I tried to push myself but it was really hard to get going and keep fighting. I was struggling to take risks on track. But, yes, we’ll keep on working.”
