Race results: MX2 World Championship RD5 – Arco di Trento – Vialle victorious

What a race the opening MX2 moto was with an electric atmosphere! Tom Vialle took the holeshot but had Mikkel Haarup who was putting him under all sorts of pressure with a nervous Steve Dixon watching on. Credit where it’s due, Vialle dealt with the pressure very well and in the end Haarup made the mistake on the last lap going off the track but he’ll feel he has the speed to win.

Jago Geets didn’t get the best of starts after a bad gate pick but passed the likes of Thibault Benistant and Andrea Adamo to end up a solid third but the championship points gap has closed with Vialle taking the win.

It was a similar race for Tom Vialle in moto two but this time it was Kay de Wolf he had for company with the young Dutch talent putting him under pressure. This time though, Vialle was able to break away with three laps to go to take an easier win than in race one. De Wolf rode well to secure second overall on his Factory Husqvarna.

The big talking point was Jago Geerts! The Belgian had an amazing first lap coming from tenth to fifth and was behind his teammate, Benistant before a big crash. The Factory Yamaha rider tried to continue but the bike was too damaged so had to pull out – losing 25 points to Vialle who’s the new championship leader.

The chase for the final step on the podium came down to the final lap, Haarup got a bad start but passed the likes of Rubini and Gifting but still needed one position for third overall. He cut down the ten second gap to Elzinga in a three laps (setting the fastest lap of the race in the process) and made the pass on the very last lap to secure his third podium in a row – what a ride!
