Race results: MXGP World Championship RD5 – Arco di Trento – Gajser wins

In the opening MXGP moto, it was Glenn Coldenhoff who held the early lead ahead of Tim Gajser as the pair gapped Jorge Prado in third. Gajser applied the pressure and made the pass to move into the lead on lap eleven – he never looked back.

Prado started to catch Coldenhoff for second but couldn’t make a pass stick meaning he’s lost five vital championship points to Gajser. It was nice to see Coldenhoff looking comfortable on his Factory Yamaha.

MXGP rookie, Maxime Renaux didn’t get a good start but made moves on Jed Beaton and Jeremy Seewer to finish a solid fourth. Calvin Vlaanderen impressed on his Gebben van Venrooy Yamaha making some passes to finish sixth.

The second moto was more Tim Gajser domination, this time he won comfortably but the battle was well and truly on behind him! Jeremy Seewer who still isn’t 100% after crashing in Argentina was battling hard and the only rider to do a triple section but Maxime Renaux was finally able to make a move on his teammate to take second overall.

Alberto Forato was a man in a hurry as he closed the gap to Prado and had the three riders in front of him right in his sights but sadly he took a crash which meant he DNF’d. As Prado then put the pressure on Seewer, Bogers closed the gap after he had previously crashed but he couldn’t make a move stick and Seewer also held off Prado to take third.

Ben Watson has had a tough start to the season but he had a great moto finishing sixth which will hopefully be the confidence booster he needs.
