Race results: MX2 World Championship RD3 – De wolf wins again at Riola

In the opening race it was a very hot pace during the first couple of laps with Sacha Coenen leading the way! He had Kay de Wolf and his brother for company though.

Both Husqvarna riders got into first and second – De Wolf was leading the way but then started to make small mistakes. Coenen applied the pressure but then with five minutes to go made a move and then pulled away at the front. The Belgian was impressive.

The heat made a brutal track even difficult and riders started to struggle. Camden McLellan rode fantastic for an impressive third on the Triumph as they continue to impress.

Thibault Benistant started eighth and was riding really well – he had just passed Adamo for fourth but then made a mistake on the last lap dropping him down to tenth. Adamo didn’t get the best of starts but will be pleased to come home in fourth in the deep sand.

Mikkel Haarup had issues on the opening lap but was flying and ended up fifth! Simon Langenfelder was as high as fourth but then looked to really struggle with the heat so he dropped down to seventh which could be costly.

Everts also had issues as he went down on the first turn but battled through to eighth.

In the second moto, Kay de Wolf didn’t waste much time getting to the front as he was leading on the first lap and started to open up a nice lead.

Lucas Coenen was buried after turn one but was on the gas and making passes everywhere! He got into second and then caught up to de Wolf but then at the halfway mark he got impatient and crashed dropping him to third.

He was then able to pass Langenfelder for second but that was it for the GP overall win – it was another one for Kay de Wolf – that is now three in a row and he’d only ever won 1 GP before this season.

There was drama as Andrea Adamo had passed Langenfelder and was third overall but then got disqualified and not only loses a podium but only twenty championship points. He got disqualified for not coming to a full stop in pitlane.

It moved Camden McLellan up to fifth in race two which was enough for third overall and his first MX2 GP podium and Triumph’s second in only their third GP!
