The Estonian has confirmed he’ll be back racing in Europe with the new brand which entered the sport this year – Triumph. JMT has inked a deal with the Aqva Triumph Racing which will see him racing the new 450cc machine.

In the new season, the plan is to compete in the ADAC MX Masters German championships, Estonian Championships and if possible some MXGP World Championship races with the 450cc. It is certainly a pleasure to be able to compete with the team in the high level ADAC series in Europe, plus to the delight of the home crowd on Estonian tracks for a long time. The end of the year at this point is a very good opportunity for physical preparation and settling down which has been needed in recent years due to the fast competition schedule and change of residence.

In January, the plan is to go to a camp in Spain and focus on the riding mainly in Europe until the first ADAC. At the end of February and at the beginning of March, a couple of preparations to do cross country with the new team. The main focus was still the USA SX, which I was aiming for, because it is a bit difficult to achieve half a big success there in one year.

Unfortunately, coming from Estonia, with my opportunities and budget, there was no reasonable opportunity on the East coast. With short preparation and being away from the starting line for 4 months, one option on the West coast was not favorable for me. I have been flying a lot in recent years and winter preparation is extremely important and unfortunately I missed it.

I also looked into MX2 GP’s and there were even a few options, but again, it was difficult to find such a reasonable solution. Since I am 22 years old, I could ride MX2 in Europe for one more year, so I decided that after this season, starting with a clean slate in a new class with a newer brand of motorcycle while building up my form would be the best option now.

Fortunately, Triumph Aqva racing offered me such an opportunity and I am very grateful to them! The goals are primarily to have a good winter and preparation. Get used to the 450cc and definitely get to know a new motorcycle at first. With good preparation, the goal would be to achieve top eight results in the ADAC MX Masters series. Certainly, the Estonian champion in the mx open class is also a goal in itself, together with the title of King of Pärnu, which has been a dream since childhood.

To be honest, I feel very good on the Triumph. I’m currently riding a TF250-X bike and it’s surprisingly good compared to the original. I like the aluminum frame in terms of handling and turning. Also, compared to the bikes I’ve ridden lately, the original Triumph 250cc is more prominent than the others in terms of the initial power, and I think it’s easier to hold the instrument on the tour, especially in sandier conditions, which is important for the 250cc. I haven’t been able to try the 450cc yet and will wait until the beginning of the new year.

Stefan Jakubini, CEO of Triumph Aqva Racing:

What are the goals of the team? We are trying to make a strong start in the first year of the team. The plan is to ride all rounds of the ADAC MX Masters to show ourselves and our riders. With this, we want to create opportunities for the future as well, get more support and open doors for Estonian athletes to prove themselves at the world level. It’s just the beginning, but the goals are high!

Where did such an ambition to take the Estonian team to Europe come from? This idea started to emerge after we went to compete outside of Estonia this year. We understood very clearly that the level gap is big, not because we don’t have talented drivers, but because the opportunities here simply do not allow us to develop at an international level. The idea of creating my own team started from this thought. Our goal is not only to develop our riders, but also to take Estonian motocross to a new level.
