Jett Lawrence compares Southwick to European sand tracks like Lommel

There are not many riders who have raced Southwick and ridden the deep sand tracks of Belgium and Holland and in the absence of Lucas Coenen and Sacha Coenen at the press conference, Jett Lawrence who spent his mid-teens in Europe and rode a lot a Lommel gave his view on how the different tracks compare and why both are tough!

Jett said: “I think it’s very different to what normal sand is in Europe. I find the sand in Europe is very deep, there’s no base to it where Southwick, it’s kind of known to have bit of a base in a lot of areas. So you never get fully deep rolers as you could say and then also it’s the bumps don’t form up the same like in Europe.

In Europe, you kind of in sand, you get a really flowy bump going. So it’s almost a little easier in a way. It’s still physically demanding because you don’t stop the entire time. I mean, Lommel’s obviously a gnarly, gnarly race because the rollers and everything gets so deep. So you’re working a lot, so obviously I can’t say it’s easier, but yeah, it’s just different.

And obviously it’s always great to have the Coenen brothers come out, obviously they had a bit of a bad day. So I hope they’re okay. But yeah, I mean, we got to see it in the first qualifying. We got to learn a few things, you know, off of Lucas and how he rides the sand and stuff like that, where it’s like picking up that Euro way of riding a sand track, you know? So we kind of got reminded of how to ride sand again!”
