Hunter Lawrence on the brothers frustration at RedBud

After the frustration of the Lawrence was shown live for all to see at the end of moto one at Red Bud, Hunter Lawrence quite rightly articlted in the press conference that it was a good thing for people to see, because it showed how much they cared about what they do.

Hunter said: “No, there’s never that emotion on the bike. I think that’s why you might see an athlete or an elite athlete in any sport have that initial blow up once they cross the finish line because to be elite, you can’t have that blow up on the bike. You know, you have to control those emotions and yeah, as soon as we get off the bike if there’s a time we’re going to explode, that’s the time. Because yeah, you come off max heart rate, just gave up points, money, whatever it may be, you know, and it means a lot for people that think maybe we don’t care as much about sport and we have too much fun on this. There’s a clear example of how much we care about this sport, the both of us.”

There was some debate after as to whether the riders should be filmed straight after the race but, for the fans, it is great to see their initial reaction as long as people understand that riders should be allowed to also show their frustrations if they are not happy. This is elite level sport with millions of dollars on the line for highly competitive people coming straight off the battlefield, it would be more concerning if their was no reaction.

The Lawrence brothers reaction just underlined how badly they want it and anyone judging them negatively clearly hasn’t dedicated their whole lives to be the best or can’t at least relate to it. They should be allowed to vent their frustrations. It only adds to the human side of the sport and the emotional nature of high level sport. They care deeply about how they perform, that’s why they are the best.
