After winning the EMX85 title in 2023, it’s clear that Nicoló Alvisi has plenty of talent but making the jump up to the EMX125 is never easy and some riders need time. Alvisi is only a rookie and even had his season disrupted with a small injury but he is starting to improve a lot. Switzerland was a dream for him as he won his first EMX125 overall and was superb in the second moto totally dominating the conditions.
We caught up with Alvisi after the event to discuss a range of topics and more…
GateDrop: Nicolo, an amazing weekend for you. Waking up on Friday morning, did you think by the end of this weekend you’d be winning your first EMX125 round?
Alvisi: Yes, the track I like really much. It is my first year on the 125cc, winning the GP is amazing for me. Thank you to the team, to KTM, to my family and for the sponsors.
GateDrop: Are you surprised? Were you surprised with your performance, especially in that second moto? I mean, you’ve just gone at the front, you were riding a different track compared to everyone else…
Alvisi: Yes, I started first and finished first. The track is really, really muddy. I’m just really, really happy.
GateDrop: Obviously last year you were on an 85cc. This is your first year in the 125cc. When you first got on the bike, how did you feel straight away? Did it take a little bit of time to get used to the bike or did you just love it from the first moment?
Alvisi: The bike I like really much and I’m really happy with it.
GateDrop: You’ve got a good team in Racestore KTM. You must have been delighted to get that opportunity with such a good team and an official KTM rider.
Alvisi: Yes, Racestore give me this opportunity. Thanks to everyone at the team.
GateDrop: You’ve got a fast teammate in Gyan Doensen. Do you ride much from him? Are you able to learn stuff from him and does that help?
Alvisi: Yes, with Gyan we are friends and see each other in a little training and at the races, so it is good.
GateDrop: Next year, what are the goals heading into next year? Championship contender now?
Alvisi: I think the championship and this winter is all about preparing for next year.
GateDrop: You are Italian, did you look up to Antonio Caroli? Is that one of the riders you looked up to when you were small or what riders do you look up to?
Alvisi: In Italy, I like Caroli, Guadagnini, Forato and he (Cairoli) is the master rider.
