Chase Sexton is a lot more confident coming to 2025 than he was on eve of A1 in 2024 and, to underline that point, Sexton believes if he is on his A game, he can’t be beaten.
An honest Sexton, speaking on the SMX preview show, said, “Last year I didn’t know going into A1 if I was going to be top ten, I was that bad! Coming off the Honda and going onto the KTM, I thought I was just going to go out there and win, there was no doubt in my mind until we started running into some problems, my confidence went down the drain.”
But that confidence is not down the drain now. Sexton, let’s not forget, is the 2024 US outdoor champ, but admits he is chasing Jett for the 2025 AMA supercross title – and he likes that position! “Last year we saw Jett win supercross, I won outdoors and he won SMX. He is obviously the defending champion, I like being in this position and chasing a guy…“
James Stewart then asked Sexton about how it feels that people see Jett Lawrence as the guy now after Sexton used to be the guy, his response was direct and to the point: “If I am at my best I still don’t think there is anyone that can beat me. I am ready to go out there and overcome this challenge.”
An outspoken Jett Lawrence said on the same show finishing second would be disappointing and he wants to have an undefeated supercross season in his career, and now Sexton is openly saying for Jett to hear that he believes at his best no one can beat him – motivation all round!
That’s before you even think of Eli Tomac determined to go out on a high, and there is no way he believes he is inferior to Jett, saying in the same show, “That’s what is in my head, I can still be the top guy battling with Jett Lawrence and Chase Sexton.” If you thought Jett Lawrence rivals are starting to doubt they can beat Jett Lawrence straight up, think again!
Add in an ever-present Cooper Webb, who is never intimidated by anyone, and Ken Roczen who has as much natural talent as anyone behind that gate, plus his own brother, Hunter Lawrence, the quality is there.
Self-belief is huge and both Jett and Chase, the champions of last season, aren’t just telling themselves they can win and are the best, they are openly telling their rivals. That’s how it should be and they may get used to doing it because Haiden Deegan won’t be shy when he moves up – and the current 450 guys shouldn’t be shy at responding!
