After coming in with the momentum as 450 motocross champion, Chase Sexton had to accept third in round one of SMX at Charlotte behind Eli Tomac and that kid named Jett Lawrence – and he wasn’t happy about it.
Sexton, as usual, was brutally honest with zero excuses in his post race TV interview, saying:
“We have a lot to improve on. It felt like a re-run if Chicago last year, trying super hard but wasn’t really going that fast. Got to find some comfort but these guys are riding really well and honestly just smoked me today. Got to get better.”
Sexton then said in the press conference:
“I’m not okay with that, I don’t like losing,” before adding: “But I think compared to what I did last year, if I can go the opposite way this year, that’d be good. Last year I was good and then I just got worse through the rest of the races. So, this year, hopefully I can bounce back in the next round and then obviously the last one is really where everything’s won at. So, if I can just try and improve and keep myself in it the last round and try and work some bugs out. We be in a good spot.”
With double points this weekend, the outdoor champ has to deliver, or Jett Lawrence will get even more momentum, not just for the SMX title but supercross 2025. If there’s one guy who you don’t want to give even more confidence to before A1, it’s Jett Lawrence. This isn’t just a battle for SMX, this is a mental battle heading into 2025 supercross and Sexton has to show Jett he can beat him anytime, anywhere on the KTM. Round one didn’t go to plan, Sexton has to hit back this weekend.
What does 3rd place mean for Chase Sexton?
