The Coenen twins have never made a secret of their desire to race in America and it now looks increasingly likely that fans Stateside could finally see the Belgian sensations line up in selected rounds of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship this year.
So far, the twins have only raced on American soil once – at the 2025 Motocross of Nations at Ironman – but plans now appear to be in place for them to return for selected rounds of the Pro Motocross series. There had already been rumours last year that they could appear at Southwick, however those plans never materialised in the end.
This time around, though, it does seems much more concrete.
There are currently three rounds on the AMA Pro Motocross calendar that do not clash with the MXGP World Championship schedule: Thunder Valley, Southwick and Ironman. It is understood that all three events are possibilities, with Steve Matthes reporting that the twins are definitely expected to line up at Thunder Valley.
We understand the plan is for the Coenen’s to contest up to three rounds of the championship, although an official announcement from KTM is still pending. The timing of the potential appearances is particularly interesting given both riders are firmly in world title contention in MXGP and MX2.
Lucas Coenen currently leads the MXGP World Championship after five rounds of the season, while Sacha Coenen sits second in the MX2 World Championship standings, just three points shy of the red plate.
With both riders in the middle of championship battles, it would certainly be a bold move from KTM to allow them to race in America during the season. However, the twins have clearly been pushing for the opportunity, with a long-term ambition of eventually racing full-time in America. Whether that move happens in the near future remains to be seen, but all signs point towards this summer giving American fans a first real glimpse of what the Coenen twins can do in AMA Pro Motocross competition.
An official announcement from KTM is expected soon, so stay tuned.
