A disappointed Ken Roczen has explained the crash, while riding outdoors, that has forced an early end to his supercross season just as he looked set to secure third in the championship with two rounds to go.

Roczen said on Instagram: “Well, I really tried to bring this thing all the way to the end but unfortunately that wasn’t in my cards. I have been hanging on by a thread for a few weeks now and I rode Mx on Wednesday which i wanted to do because I was craving something different and Mx actually helps SX too. I was jumping a turning sand roller section and my leg got ripped of the pegs from the rut and I knew right away that my ankle was even worse than it was before. It was extremely painful and the pain stuck around for longer afterwards.

“My Syndesmosis ligament was already torn and I feel like it wasn’t as stable as I thought it was because I never wanted to put my foot down already because I couldn’t resist my ankle from rotating externally. It would just flop that way and now it feels like that is way worse and it just overall feels really lose. I will have to do surgery to get it fixed so there are no issues down the road. I still think I had a really good season with the team @hepmotorsports @pmg.racing and it’s definitely not for a lack of trying from all of us. Sorry to the Denver and Salt Lake City Fans I really tried but it is just not in my cards to go racing. Big thanks to the Pipes family. Dustin, Aaron, Dana for always having my back and creating an awesome crew to go racing with!”
