Results: MXGP qualifier Portugal

Glenn Coldenhoff took the win in the qualifying race after holding off Jorge Prado all race long in big victory for the factory Yamaha rider who has been suffering arm pump this year affecting his results. Coldenhoff was gifted the lead after Gajser and Fernandez dramatically collided and wentr down while running 1-2 on lap one leaving both Honda riders at the back of the pack.

But Fernandez, following Gajser through the field, ended up going down again and DNF’ing in a big blow to his hopes tomorrow. After qualifying fastest for the heat race, he will go to the line last tomorrow.

Gajser meanhile picked his way back through the field safely to 8th and got another position gifted to him after his title rival, Maxime Renaux, made a msitake on the last lap to drop from sixth to tenth. Renaux didn’t look quite on his normal level all moto and will be kicking himself at a mistake that cost him gate position over the championship leader.
