Maxime Renaux was running top five with a still not a fully healed foot in Spain at round two of the 2024 MXGP world championship. That was until the pain became too much and the French former MX2 world champion, had to call it a day after the first moto and got more surgery on his foot in order to allow himself to ride at his full potential.
Fast forward nearly six months down the line, and Renaux is back earlier than anticipated and back up front instantly! The Frenchman, who is also on the French MXoN team, led both motos going 6th overall on the day with 5-7 moto scores – and he even ran third in race one until the final couple of laps despite only being back on the bike about a week!
It was one of the performances of the weekend and underlines just how good Renaux is and could be if he can stay away from injury, he is a world title contender.
This is what he had to say about his day: “A sixth place for my comeback, that’s pretty okay. Obviously I’m most satisfied about my starts. Two holeshots. Awesome. The riding was not too bad either. The five first laps I could keep up smoothly but then I felt that I miss some competition rhythm. That’s logical of course. Moreover I was ill, I had fever. But that’s not an excuse. I just need some more practice hours on the bike. So I know what to do the next weeks.”
