Prado, Gajser and Herlings discuss Cairoli’s MXGP wildcard ride at Arnhem

This weekend will be a historic MXGP World Championship round at Arnhem as Antonio Cairoli will be racing but not only that, the 38 year old will be making Ducati’s MXGP debut.

It’ll be nice to see the new bike taking on the toughest championship in the world and there’s no better man to make their debut than 9 times world champion, Antonio Cairoli.

After the Swedish GP took place, Prado, Gajser and Herlings were asked their thoughts in the press conference.

Jorge Prado:

“Antonio has always loved riding motorcycles, and I think that’s why he’s coming back for a round of Grand Prix racing. He must miss racing a bit. It’s also good for the championship to see him back on track. I think he can really do something in the sand of Arnhem. I saw him ride last week and he was doing really well. I hope for him that he can fight in the right group and make the championship even more fun”.

Tim Gajser:

“I’ve always enjoyed riding against Antonio, I still remember when I won the 65 European title, he was winning his second MX2 world championship. I was a kid, 11 years old, and I still have that photo I took with him that day. Antonio is a legend, he’s won so many world titles. It’s good to see him back on track for this Grand Prix at Arnhem. It will be cool to have him with us behind the gate and on the track”.

Jeffrey Herlings:

“I know Antonio is always fast. I wouldn’t have done that, because once you retire, it’s over. Antonio came back to the track once in the USA, then he’s coming back in Arnhem. I don’t know if I’d have done what he did, but it’s good to see him back on track, he’s a great ambassador for the sport. Antonio still loves it: riding and competing. It’s cool to see him back, but in his place I wouldn’t have tried, even though I’m sure he’ll be able to ride between third and eighth place. I think he’s still got that speed, I’ve seen him ride and he’s still very fast. We’ll see how it goes and we’ll also see the Ducati, I think that’s also what people want to see.”
