On October 5-6, 2024, the Motocross of Nations team race will be held at the Matterley Basin track in England. The captain of the team, Jere Haavisto, who was planned to race in the MX Open class, unfortunately has to miss the race due to an injury. Miro Varjonen has been chosen as the replacement rider on a fast schedule.

The team’s most experienced rider, Jere Haavisto, who has already represented Finland five times in the national team race, was injured last weekend in Germany.

“It’s a shame that the biggest race of the season is now missed. Last weekend, I had really bad luck in the race and I crashed due to a technical fault. The shoulder joint was damaged due to the fall,” says Jere Haavisto about the injury.

Jere Haavisto’s injury during the competition is unfortunate news, but is part of elite sports. The team’s goals remain the same after the lineup change. The goal is to reach the final of the competition.

As the competition is already close, Haavisto’s injury comes as sad news to team manager Kusti Manninen.

“Very sad news. This is of course a really big blow for the team. Jere Haavisto is an experienced and strong competitor, from whom we expected the best performance of the season in England. We quickly mapped the possibilities of several different drivers to replace Haavisto. Vaakakuppi finally tilted in Varjonen’s direction due to good performances in the rest of the season, as well as issues related to equipment and logistics. We now have two first-timers in the team, and I hope that they will challenge the world’s best without prejudice and achieve top performances. The positive thing is that we can give these young promises a chance to show what they are capable of.” says team leader Manninen.

Miro Varjonen is going to replace Haavisto in the MXoN team. Varjonen, who is only 19 years old, has competed convincingly in SM-Motocross this season and is therefore going to represent Finland in the Motocross of Nations competition for the first time.

“I’m leaving with a good feeling to represent Finland. I’m going to do my best for the team and enjoy the international competition. I’m really happy for the given opportunity.” says Miro Varjonen, selected for the team.

Emil Weckman (MXGP), Sampo Rainio (MX2) and Miro Varjonen (MX Open) will ride in the 2024 Motocross of Nations Finnish national team. The team’s captain is Emil Weckman.
