Doug Turney is over at Budds Creek for us and he got the latest from Max Anstie on his adjustment to Star Yamaha as well as the chances of seeing Max for team GB at the MXoN – it still appears to be a stalemate.
“I would love to do it,” asserted Anstie. “Team GB are in contact with Star. It is expensive for the team, I think Star, what they are asking is a little bit out of team GB’s budget at the minute, so unless they can make some compromises, I don’t know if it’s going to be on the cards this year.
“For me going back to England would be amazing, I have done it before but I get it from the team’s side, they want to do it right and not do a half-assed job so it’s one of those I am leaving it up to the ACU, the British Federation and Star to try and figure things out.
“I don’t know, it seems like it might be a bit of a long shot, because they need to find a bit more money, it’s a tricky one because the Nations isn’t part of my US series which is what the team do and with SMX, they have got to build a whole new bike for the Nations, there is a whole lot more to it but it will be what it will be and at the moment the focus is on this weekend and next weekend and we will go from there.”
If Tomac and Deegan are going for team USA cut the cost for team GB?
“I thought it would help but I think it’s just different – each rider will have their own box so it doesn’t actually make a difference, it’s your box that has to go and be shipped over there and insurance, there is a whole lot more to it than just flying over there with a set of suspension and engine – from the team side. For me, I am ready, if I can be there I will be there but yeah, it is what it is.”
