Young British talent Dan Devine is getting his feet wet on the European stage, gaining valuable experience against some of the best young riders in Europe while also building confidence racing the British Youth series. Fresh from a strong showing on his EMX85 debut and a domestic win, Devine is setting clear targets for the remainder of the season as he looks to keep developing.
Reflecting on his recent outing in the Netherlands, Devine admitted he exceeded his own expectations against lots of talent:
“Racing the EMX85 event in the Netherlands was good. I came over thinking I wasn’t even going to qualify, but I went home with a ninth and a tenth, so I was happy with that. I didn’t have any expectations – I just wanted to qualify, that was the goal. The Delfzijl track was rough, it was really bumpy. It was like the roughest hard pack track I’ve rode, because of all the bumps in it. There wasn’t many ruts or jumps, it was just bumpy. The level was high and it was hard”, Devine told GateDrop.com.
With another trip planned to Denmark for the next round of the EMX85 series on the horizon, the Irish rider is eager to continue building momentum, even if the conditions may not entirely suit his preference:
“I’ve never been to Denmark before but I’m looking forward to it and hopefully I can get another top ten. Personally I’d rather sandy conditions. I haven’t done too much hard pack riding just aside from the EMX race”

Racing the British Youth series, Devine has already tasted success this season, something that has boosted both his confidence and motivation heading into the busy months ahead:
“It was good to get the British Championship race win under my belt there. My goals are to hopefully finish the top five in the British Youth Championship and then try to qualify for Loket, that’s the goal. It would be class to go and race in Loket”
Like many young riders, Devine draws inspiration from the very best in the sport and dreams of lining up on the same stage as his heroes provided he can qualify for the EMX85 final:
“It’d be so good to race at Loket alongside MXGP. I’m watching it a lot. Jeffrey Herlings is the rider I look up too. He’s just aggressive and great to watch. A big thank you to my family because without them none of this would be possible”.
With growing confidence, European experience, and clear goals in sight, Devine’s trajectory is firmly upward. If his recent performances are anything to go by, a place on the EMX stage at Loket could well be within reach as he continues his development.
