Interview: Brian Gyles – “I can’t wait to race at Foxhill”

Thailand-born Brian Gyles is continuing to make impressive progress in Europe as he balances the British 125cc Championship with a full campaign in the highly competitive EMX125 Championship.

Now based in the United Kingdom, Gyles is gaining valuable experience against some of the best young riders in the world and is already showing encouraging signs during his first season on the 125cc machine.

Reflecting on his move to Europe and the progress he has made so far this season, Gyles explained:

“There are a few fast riders there in Thailand but the tracks are not that difficult. That’s why I’m here racing in Europe and the  UK. I was struggling with the suspension on the 125cc and controlling things but now the bike suits me pretty good. So far this season has been really good for me. I just hope this season can continue like this and nothing bad happens”, Gyles told GateDrop.com.

One of the highlights of his British Championship campaign came at Canada Heights, where he secured an overall victory. While pleased with the result, the young rider admitted he would prefer to earn wins by making passes on track rather than benefiting from penalties.

“Yes, I was happy about my win at Canada Heights. I just feel a little bit lucky with the way I ride. The rider who won in race two got a penalty. I want to win by passing, but the result is good for me”.

The transition to EMX125 competition has also provided a steep learning curve. After struggling to qualify during the opening rounds, Gyles has steadily improved and produced a standout ride at Arco di Trento, where he finished eleventh in race two.

“The EMX125 class was difficult for me in the first two races – I was struggling to qualify, but now overall things are going good for me. I was really happy with the second race in Arco finishing eleventh – I didn’t expect to have that good a result in first year. Everywhere has been really nice in the MXGP paddock. They have showers, cleaning places and when I’m finished warm up or qualifying, I can go watch the GP riders to see the lines they are using or how fast they go in the corner or jumps”.

This weekend, Gyles will have the opportunity to race at the iconic Foxhill circuit, which returns to the MXGP calendar after undergoing significant changes. The youngster is looking forward to the challenge and has clear goals in mind.

“I am excited with the new look of the Foxhill track. I can’t wait to race there – My goal is to qualify top ten and finish the races in the top fifteen.  My goals for the future are to be a world champion, EMX champion and MX2-MXGP champion”.

Like many young riders, Gyles has role models within the paddock and says the Coenen brothers are the riders he most enjoys watching.

“I look up to Lucas Coenen and Sacha Coenen because they always find new limits – they’re really nice to watch. They’re really fast for me”.

Looking ahead, Gyles is determined to continue developing in the EMX125 class and build on the experience he has gained throughout 2026.

“Yes, for sure. I want to complete with a better results next year in the EMX125 class. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Miba MX Team and the Team manager Clegy Wambacq. Also, a big thank you to my coach – Stephen James Dunn”.

With confidence growing and results improving, Gyles is establishing himself as one of Thailand’s brightest motocross prospects as he continues his journey through the European ranks.
