Geerts considers stopping his 2024 GP season after more bad luck

After a rider crashed in front of Jago Geerts in the qualifying race, leaving him nowhere to go and buried under his bike spinning wheel leading to burns, Geerts admits the bad luck this season (and the heartache of losing two MX2 world titles in a row that should have been his) has left him so deflated he is considering not racing the final three Grand Prix of the year.

See below from Yamaha:

Qualifying race: Despite a bad position at the gate (he only set the 28th time) Geerts has a decent start. Jago rides into the first turn around P10, but halfway through lap one he cannot avoid a crash from Stauffer. He crashes over the Austrian and is stuck under his own bike. And this while a wheel keeps spinning on his hip. Geerts tries to continue the race but still has to abandon the race.
Comment: “Bad luck keeps following me. I could not get away when that rider crashed in front of me, I hit him, crashed and got my bike on me. Result: several abrasions and burns. However those injuries were not the reason for my withdrawal. I could have ridden but mentally I’m a bit down after all these setbacks. That serious elbow injury, the surgeries, the difficult rehabilitation… And now this. It’s just too much for me. Now I first have to clear my head. There is a big chance that I will not ride a Grand Prix anymore this year.”
