Kay Karssemakers hasn’t had the start to 2025 that he would have hoped for. After signing with the Haaz/Riley Kawasaki team during the off-season, the Dutch rider was left without a ride when the team folded before the season even began.
Left in a difficult situation, Karssemakers intended to race the Dutch Masters series as a privateer. Although he missed the opening two rounds of the Dutch Masters of Motocross due to a thumb injury—he returned for the third and final round in Markelo, where he impressed with a consistent 2-2 scorecard for second overall on the day.
Now, the talented Dutchman is set to return to the world stage. It has been confirmed that Karssemakers will line up in the MX2 World Championship round in Germany this weekend (Kemco management completed his entry) with a privateer setup named: Abrex Logistics Kawasaki. The event marks the halfway point of the series and will be his first Grand Prix appearance since Cozar last season.
“I am really happy to be able to do a GP with the support I got from Abrex Logistics. He’s doing everything he can, and I do everything that I can on the physical and the riding side. You know, it’s not easy to do everything on our own but now I’m really happy with what he’s doing and what everybody’s doing around me. I don’t know where I am at especially on the hardpack tracks because I only did like two times hard pack training. I just want to see it as a big practice day, a big practice weekend. I just want to have fun and just do my thing. What I normally can do is not too bad so that’s just the main thing. Hopefully I can have a good weekend and then we will see where we are at”, Karssemakers told GateDrop.com.
For the future, the Dutch rider is still motivated to race the MX2 World Championship. If he can’t secure a team the plan is to race more rounds as a wildcard but it’s not yet certain which other rounds. Hopefully he can pick up a ride with a team to end the 2025 season.
“For the future, my plan and my goal is still to do the GP’s and I think if I have everything sorted and everything good around me… I think I can do quite well but it’s just so difficult with teams, sponsors and stuff. I’m really looking forward to this weekend and I’m feeling fit. I’m feeling quite good on the bike as well so let’s see what we can do in Germany”, concluded Karssemakers.
It’ll be great to see Karssemakers back in the paddock as he looks to rebuild momentum and remind everyone of his potential on the international stage.
