Is Haiden Deegan riding smarter than we all think? The ultra aggressive and at times cocky Star Yamaha rider admitted he wasn’t going all in for the win in Glendale showing some maturity in a title chase that he desperately wants to win. And the plan worked with Beaumer making two big mistakes while leading and Deegan now only two points behind going into the two week break and in position to attack for this title.
“That was a big thing today”, Deegan conceded in the press conference.
“Just not focussing on winning the races, juut being consistent and smart. We have a big break after this and you want to come in healthy to the next round. After those first two (motos), I knew the red plate holder was at a deficit, so in that last race, I was like, I am not going to do anything super unnecessary, all day I struggled with how I felt, that’s going to happen at the professional level but obviously we come out swinging in three weeks“.
Deegan also said he thinks the 250 class should have an age limit saying when asked if he can see himself racing into his 30’s like a lot of the current top 450 riders:
“I don’t want to take jabs at people for how long they have been in the class, but, I honestly think the 250 class should have an age limit on it, just so the younger generation has opportunity to get riders, and that’s no jab at anybody, it’s just my thought but besides that the 450 class, if you are fit and healthy at old age, then why not?!”
While Deegan’s smart night in Glendale might not be as exciting, it might just be the way to get this title and bring longevity to his career.
