He was the fastest rider on a 250 but crashes thwarted Max Anstie’s chances of winning his only WSX of the season with the Star Yamaha and the number one plate.
Anstie went quickest in superpole and ran away with the opening moto but a bad start meant he had to come through the pack in race two and couldn’t quite male the pass on McElrath fir the win before a crash in each of the next two races ended his shot at the overall win – but the number one looked good on the Star Yamaha and Anstie certainly had a lot of speed on his supercross debut with Star.
Anstie said: “First SX race on the new bike, felt comfy pretty quickly and went fastest in all practice, quali and super pole sessions. Executed the start in main 1 and rode a nice race to take the win. Second main, came through a few guys, made a run at the lead but slid out on the last lap ended up p2. Third main, hit neutral on lap 1 in a rhythm lane and almost ended my night early 🤦♂️ got back up but was way back. Slid out again on my way through the pack for 9th.
“Superfinal was in a decent spot and jumped off track and slid out on the wood 😵 Still ended up second overall somehow, and seeing as I was a wild card & only racing this round it lived up to the name of a wild night!
“I was definitely a little rusty on SX and just feeling things out with the bike. But happy with where I’m at early in this off season. Looking forward to the next couple of months, sharpening up, getting the laps in and will be ready for US SX next year. Cheers to the @starracingyamaha crew for supporting this race with me and for @fimwsx for putting on an awesome event as always! Until next time WSX.”
