Simon Längenfelder leads the MX2 world championship by 16 points over defending champ, Kay de Wolf, heading into the final round in Australia. Längenfelder has never been in this position before finishing third last season, but now he is on the verge of fulfilling a dream.
Lisa Leyland caught up with the German who said of the title fight: “If I am being honest, it has been tense for quite some rounds since I had the red plate. It is a situation I have never been in, right now it is looking good. I know it is tense and a lot on the line but I am just going for it. I think I am on a really good level this year, I made a big, big step from last year with how I am riding, I feel like I can win and I am quite sure about that.
On where he became a better rider, he said: “I got fitter, way better technique I think, the more bumpy, the more rutted the tracks are, the better I am usually. I just became a better rider in all the categories, I am feeling ready.”
On what it would mean to be world champ, the German admitted: “To be honest, everything! As kid I never thought I would be at this point, I was riding 50cc and I could never believe I would be here. I have two normal parents… I just need to do my thing, I know I can do it and I am here to show (that).”
