ZXMOTO are the latest manufacturer seeking to join MXGP and if their World Supersport record this year is anything to go by they could be a force to be reckoned with and another destination for GP riders seeking rides in the premier class.
The bikes were on international display for the first time at Lommel MXGP and they may even be making their MXGP debut this year at the Chinese Grand Prix! With very attractive prices for customers, the bikes look impressive and the ambition of the brand is certainly there to make an impact in the industry.
Founded by Zhang Zue who was initially part of the Kove dirt bike project, before putting his own ideas into play, the ambition to create a competitive brand at the highest level is definitely there. We caught up with Wim Vanvinckenroye to get the latest on the project.
Gatedrop: So we’re here with a brand new team or manufacturer from China, ZX Moto and we have Wim here to just basically explain the team or the brand, what the future is going to hold for it and where you think it could go in the future.
Yeah, the most important thing is that we are for the first time here with the brand on the MXGP track and on the weekend of the MXGP. That means that we that we will let see to all the customers, but also to the world that ZX is coming.
And for sure Benelux and the Danish Importer that will take care about making the dealer net in Benelux, Denmark and Sweden. So yeah, that’s what we will do. Why ZX Moto? ZX Moto has a good strategy, but also a good story because the man behind ZX is Zhang Zue and he was was the CEO of Kove before, but he didn’t have his freedom like he has now.
And the only thing that he will do is make some motorcycles that can be racing. And he did already with the SuperSport this year. He was winning a lot of races this year already and he will do it also with the MX, but also with the Dakar.
Gatedrop: So in World Supersport, it seems to have taken off quite quickly, been quite successful. Do you expect the quality of the dirt bike to be that effective whenever they go racing and MXGP?
My idea is the thing that we do or what we will do, we will do. And that is a dream. His dream is already the ZXMOTO and we will win the Supersport races, but he has a plan. The man behind ZXMOTO has a really good plan.
Gatedrop: So from what I understand, they may race in Shanghai at the Chinese GP this year?
Yeah, they will make a tryout in China at MX2 in September.
Gatedrop: And everything on the bike is made in China? Is that correct?
Absolutely, everything is done in China. That’s really correct.
Gatedrop: And as far as making changes to the bike, are you expecting an MXGP team starting 27 or 28 or is there any timeline for that?
There is a timeline, but I’m not so sure to say in 2027, but they are thinking about it.
Gatedrop: And that would be both classes or one class?
I don’t know yet. I’m not sure yet.
Gatedrop: So we were talking before there earlier and they were saying, another guy who actually lived in China said that the make changes very quickly. And they learn very quickly, the Chinese. So any problems with the bike or any improvements, it looks like they are going to be able to make changes very quickly. Especially once they start testing with a GP rider and everything. Would that be what you would be expecting?
You have to know Europe and China is another culture. They go so fast in China, it’s amazing. So yeah, it’s really possible.
Gatedrop: This brand ZXMOTO could be the next big thing in motocross and really come up with high name?
That’s what we hope.
