Reigning WMX World Champion Lotte van Drunen is set to take on a new challenge as she lines up in the MX2 World Championship at the upcoming MXGP of Trentino in Arco di Trento taking place this weekend.
The Dutch sensation kicked off her 2025 WMX title defence in perfect style, winning the opening round in Riola Sardo with a flawless 1-1 performance. Now, with momentum on her side, she’s decided to mix it with the fastest 250cc riders on the planet by racing in the MX2 World Championship.
While this won’t be van Drunen’s Grand Prix debut—she contested the deep sand of Lommel last season—this weekend will mark her first MX2 GP outing on a hard-pack circuit. It’s a bold move that underlines her ambition and determination to keep progressing in her career.
Racing against the world’s best in MX2 is no small step, but van Drunen has already proven she’s capable of rising to the occasion. All eyes will be on how she adapts to the slick and technical conditions of Arco di Trento, as she continues to break boundaries in the sport.
We caught up with her to get her thoughts on racing MX2 this weekend…
On racing the MX2 World Championship at Arco di Trento…
Well, I haven’t done any pre-season races or any training on the hard pack tracks. I think I’ve done four days training on the hard pack. To race on a GP track is the best training for a race and I get the chance to do this in another class. That is the reason why I’ll go there and obviously I love racing MX2. I love Arco and have some good memories there so that is why.
On expectations…
I don’t expect anything. I hope to ride a good qualifying race because that is the same length as the WMX races. On Sunday I will just use as good physical training to learn to ride the bumps and big ruts better – that is what I am struggling with in the hard pack tracks.
On if she will do more MX2 GP’s…
Well, maybe. I will do Lommel again for sure and maybe some more. I need to see, like I said I really enjoy it and it’s good for me. We will see – probably!
