Guillem Farres has been on fire contesting the 2026 MX2 World Championship, but it now appears the Spaniard could be preparing for the next chapter of his career.
After months of speculation surrounding his future, all indications suggest that Farres is set to remain in the Grand Prix paddock rather than return to the United States, with Kawasaki Racing Team (KRT) emerging as the most likely destination for his MXGP rookie campaign in 2027.
Farres has enjoyed a superb season in what is his final year of MX2 eligibility. The Triumph rider not only secured his maiden MX2 Grand Prix overall victory but has gone on to win four overalls so far during an outstanding campaign. His recent form has propelled him to the top of the championship standings, meaning he will arrive at Loket carrying the red plate as he continues his bid for a world title.

With Farres ageing out of the MX2 class at the end of the season, his options were clear: either step up to the premier MXGP category or pursue another move to America.
While there was significant interest from both AMA Pro Motocross and MXGP teams, we understand that the Spaniard has chosen to remain in Europe and continue his career in the World Championship paddock.
Farres has spoken on several occasions about how happy he is with Triumph Racing, but a move appears to be on the cards. Triumph are currently expected to field just one MXGP rider in 2027, with Mikkel Haarup set for a return to the team after his stint racing AMA Pro Motocross in the United States.
That has opened doors for Farres to switch elsewhere, with all signs currently pointing towards Kawasaki Racing Team.
KRT recently confirmed that Romain Febvre will leave the team at the end of the 2026 season before beginning a new chapter with Ducati. Farres is now expected to be the rider chosen to fill the Frenchman’s seat as he makes the step up to the MXGP class.
The Japanese manufacturer is also expected to scale back to a single MXGP rider in 2027 after expanding its MX2 programme, with Francisco Garcia set to join Mathis Valin in the team’s two-rider MX2 line-up.
Should the deal come together, it would mark one of the most intriguing rider moves ahead of the 2027 season, giving Farres the opportunity to begin his premier-class career under the KRT awning – he’ll be hoping to make the move up to the class after becoming MX2 World Champion.
As always, we’ll bring you more news from the paddock as and when we hear it.
