Swedish rider, Leopold Ambjörnsson ages out of the MX2 World Championship for the 2025 season but the good news is that he’ll remain in the paddock and will take on the MXGP World Championship.
Ambjörnsson improved a lot this year finishing twentieth in the MX2 World Championship scoring twenty two points. For the 2025 season, he’ll also be changing machinery as he’ll make the move from Husqvarna to Honda.
It’ll be a new challenge in the MXGP World Championship and a new bike but it’s nice to see him remain the paddock. Just like in 2024, he’ll be racing for his own structure, Leoparden Racing but with the help from Vermeeren Honda. The plan is to contest all rounds of the MXGP World Championship.
“Actually it feels really good to move up to MXGP. I think it fits my riding style better than the 250cc. It will also be fun with something new after being a while on the 250cc”, Ambjörnsson told GateDrop.com.
“I haven’t yet done many laps on the 450cc, I have only done some testing on other bikes than my own so will be fun to go on my bike. The deal came from that I really liked the feeling from the Honda when I tried it so then it came up with some contacts and we ended up together with Vermeeren. I just want to make a solid first year in the big class. I don’t really like the age rule in the MX2 World Championship. I think it would be better for the racing without it. But for me it wouldn’t matter so much, I was anyway planning to step up. But for some guys the 450cc just doesn’t fit”, concluded Ambjörnsson.
Vermeeren Honda revealed the news via social media:

Good luck!
