Valentin Guillod has been a regular presence in the MXGP World Championship this season, contesting the opening six rounds as a privateer aboard Yamaha machinery. Despite some strong performances, the past couple of rounds haven’t quite gone to plan for the Swiss rider.
At his home Grand Prix in Switzerland, Guillod showed promising speed, getting a good start in the second moto and running as high as fifth. Unfortunately, a big crash put an early end to his weekend. As a result of the crash, Guillod sustained a collarbone injury and has already undergone surgery.
The setback means Guillod will miss the next two rounds of the MXGP World Championship. However, the good news is that he is expected to be back on the bike in a few weeks, with a return to racing anticipated for May.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Guillod, but no doubt the Swiss fan-favourite will be eager to make a strong comeback once fully fit.
Guillod offered the following update on social media:
I’m sad, it wasn’t part of the plan! I gave my best, and all my energy in this project. The surgery went well last Wednesday. They removed the old plate and put a new one longer on my right collarbone. I will miss the 2 next GP’s but I will be back racing on Saturday the 24th of May. I’m already back on my bicycle and will be back on my bike around the 10th of May. Thanks for your support and all your messages.
