After showing flashes of his potential earlier this season, Pauls Jonass had started to build momentum on the factory Kawasaki in the MXGP class. Returning from a previous injury, the Latvian was beginning to find his form and demonstrate what he’s capable of on the 450cc machine.
However, misfortune struck again during the opening moto at the MXGP of Germany. Jonass suffered a heavy crash that ruled him out for the rest of the weekend, bringing an abrupt halt to his progress.
Following medical checks, Jonass has since confirmed the extent of his injuries: a broken collarbone and shoulder blade. It’s another frustrating blow for the former MX2 World Champion, who will now shift his focus toward recovery and rehabilitation.
There’s no official timeline for his return just yet, but Jonass will be aiming to come back fully fit and ready to show what he can do in the latter stages of the season. Everyone at KRT will be hoping to see him back at the races as soon as possible.
The Latvian posted the following update on social media:
MXGP of Germany ended up in hospital bed… Crashed hard with three laps to go in first moto while running 7th. Broken collarbone and shoulder blade. Waiting for further checks and news from the doctor. Another bump on the road but I won’t give up!
