Haiden Deegan spoke about his riding style and his desire to beat Jett Lawrence while talking on the post-race show with Adam Cianciarulo and Justin Brayton. He admitted his goal is to beat Jett Lawrence when he moves up but also talked about his riding style, technique and ability to deliver under pressure.
Deegan said of his night: “I definitely wanted the 1-1, that would have been a lot cooler to finish it off like that. I got into second, sent it pretty hard, putting down laps and I was barely catching Pierce and I saw four laps left and I was like with that close to being a champion it’s just not worth risking it. I had to back it down.”
On his style: “Instinct, I’m outrageous and an aggressive kid, so I think it correlates to how I ride. I’m really just trying to get to the point where I’m aggressive and have that perfect technique as well, and make like a little demon on the bike.”

On pressure: “You feel the pressure but I learned to turn that pressure into the best me. It’s a thing that’s in my system or how I was raised or whatever, I don’t let the pressure take over me, I do my best work when I have pressure, it’s definitely a good habit to have.
On when he will race Jett Lawrence: “I definitely want to race him in a few years and beat him, that’s my goal. The goal is to train really hard, work my butt off and figure out a way to beat him.”
Deegan v Lawrence can’t come soon enough, let’s hope it isn’t a few more years!
