After Marc-Antoine Rossi set the pace during MX2 free practice, it was Romain Febvre who set the pace in a deep MXGP World Championship field.
Febvre edged out Ruben Fernandez who loves the Argentina track with Jeffrey Herlings third fastest on his MXGP return.
Tim Gajser was fourth quickest ahead of the impressive Pauls Jonass who rounded out the top five.
Seewer saved his best lap right until the end to go sixth fastest ahead of reigning world champion, Jorge Prado. MXGP rookie, Jago Geerts was ninth fastest but only a second and a half off the pace.
British riders, Ben Watson was seventeenth fastest on his Beta with Josh Gilbert twenty second fastest.
