EXCL: Chinese manufacturer ZXMOTO planning MXGP entry for 2027

The MXGP World Championship could welcome another new manufacturer to the paddock in 2027, with Chinese brand ZXMOTO confirming they intend on launching a programme to contest the premier class.

While Kove are planning to enter the EMX250 Championship next season, ZXMOTO have set their sights even higher, with ambitions of competing in the MXGP World Championship from 2027 onwards.

The manufacturer is currently holding discussions with potential teams and structures that could operate the programme, while development of its new 450cc motocross machine is already well underway. Testing and development are taking place across both China and Europe as the project gathers momentum.

ZXMOTO’s racing director, Jesús Rincón, provided us with an exclusive update on the plans.

“That’s correct. Our intention is to enter the MXGP World Championship from the 2027 season onwards. At the moment, we’re still working on defining and structuring the project, so there are still a number of details to finalise regarding how the programme will be organised. From our side, it would be preferable to run two riders. We are still defining things, but our intention is to contest the full MXGP series”, Rincón told GateDrop.com.

Although there is still plenty of work to do before the project reaches the starting gate, the confirmation that the bike is already in its development phase is an encouraging sign for the ambitious programme.

“On the technical side, the motorcycle is already running, and we’re currently in the development phase, with work being carried out between China and Europe. That’s all I can share for now, but we will have news as the project progresses”, concluded Rincón.

ZXMOTO did have plans to make their MXGP debut in China this year but have now decided against that as the full focus is now on the 2027 season.

If everything comes together as planned, ZXMOTO could become the latest manufacturer to join the MXGP paddock, adding even more depth and competition to the World Championship from the 2027 season onwards.
