RUMOUR: Jago Geerts to ink a deal with SR Motoblouz Honda for 2027?

Jago Geerts could be set for a move to SR Motoblouz Honda for the 2027 MXGP World Championship season, despite currently being contracted to Beta.

The Belgian is only in his second season competing in the MXGP class after establishing himself as one of the winningest MX2 riders of his generation. Geerts secured an impressive 24 MX2 Grand Prix overall victories during his time in the class, although a world title ultimately eluded him despite consistently showing the speed required to fight at the very front.

There were high expectations when Geerts made the step up to the premier class, particularly after his impressive performance at the 2022 Motocross of Nations at RedBud. Racing a 450cc machine in a major event for the first time, Geerts immediately showed his potential by battling at the sharp end with the likes of Eli Tomac.

However, injuries hampered his first full season in the MXGP class and Geerts ultimately departed Yamaha at the end of the 2025 campaign. He subsequently signed a two-year deal with Beta, with the 2026 season serving as something of a rebuilding year for both rider and manufacturer.

Geerts has shown flashes of his potential on the Beta this year and currently sits 15th in the MXGP World Championship standings. Despite his two-year contract with Beta, however, we understand that Geerts could be on the move for the 2027 season, with SR Motoblouz Honda reportedly keen to bring the Belgian into their rider line up.

The French outfit is set to receive increased factory HRC support from the 2027 season, which could make the team an increasingly attractive option for riders looking to compete at the highest level.

SR Motoblouz Honda has already confirmed that Calvin Vlaanderen will join the team for the 2027 season. Should the Geerts deal come to fruition, the Belgian would therefore be reunited with his former Yamaha teammate.

The team had previously been strongly linked with Oriol Oliver for a 2027 MXGP seat, but it now appears that Geerts could have secured the ride instead. Another interesting situation to keep an eye on will be the future of Kevin Horgmo. The Norwegian has done a good job with SR Motoblouz Honda and is currently in his third season under the team’s awning.

For now, the reported deal between Geerts and SR Motoblouz Honda remains unconfirmed. However, if the move does happen, it would give the Belgian a fresh opportunity to rebuild his MXGP career with HRC factory support behind him.
