Tim Gajser gave fans a real scare last time out after suffering a big crash that left many concerned for his condition. The five-time world champion was thrown violently from his Honda after taking a wide line and hitting a dirt mound at the edge of the track, which sent him flying off the bike.
Following the crash, Gajser had to wait a reported thirty minutes before being transported to the medical centre for evaluation. Thankfully, the full extent of the injury was revealed to be a dislocated shoulder—not ideal, but not as bad as initially feared.
Gajser has since returned home to Slovenia to recover, and with a weekend break in the MXGP calendar, the timing couldn’t have been better. The break has given him a small but vital window to focus on healing.
Showing his trademark toughness, Gajser has now confirmed via social media that he will travel to Portugal for this weekend’s Grand Prix in an attempt to race. Riding in pain may be unavoidable, but knowing Gajser’s grit and determination, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him battling at the front once again.
The Slovenian currently has the MXGP championship lead and has a 27 points advantage over Romain Febvre.
