Hunter Lawrence on Daytona

Hunter Lawrence came very close to beating the King of Daytona, Eli Tomac, with the championship leader, putting in his best laps in the final two laps of the race to show the pace and fitness is right there with Tomac, even on the American legend’s favourite track!

Hunter was visibly disappointed after the race but he showed that anywhere, anytime, he is a threat to win and seemingly has no big weakness. The speed, the starts and the fitness are all there for the Australian who looks to be in the prime of his career right now.

Hunter said: “One thing that I guess I took for granted this weekend was not having the tower that you could look at over the finish line and see how much time you had left and stuff. Even during qualifying you got to look all up to the far end. So I think yeah, we’re I’m pretty grateful for the tower we have in the stadium.

On his speed at the end of the race Hunter explained: “Just giving my max effort, you know, I felt like I spent the whole first 15 minutes kind of compensating the bike and figuring where it’s kicking and stuff like that and where it’s washing. Already on a tough track, you have to compensate with the track changing a lot as well as kind of overcoming that – just like every lap, it’s changing and trying to just figure that out.

While he still has the red plate by a solitary point of Tomac, Hunter isn’t too worried about the colour of his number plate just yet, saying: “It’s just a coloured background and I feel like who I am as a racer and who I am as a rider, it doesn’t really change much whether I have the red or a white background.

This Supercross series looks to be coming down to Hunter v Eli for the title if Roczen or Webb can’t get a win quickly.
