Haiden Deegan’s mechanic, Brent Duffe, has explained the circumstances behind Haiden Deegan not picking his gate time that meant the 450 debutant had to start from the outside every moto, effectively ending his chances of starting up front and seeing the pace, dominating winner, Ken Roczen, had.
Deegan still fought through the pack to take third overall in an impressive display with some huge whips during the motos but it was a case of what could have been for Deegan if he or his mechanic had been made aware of the gate pick procedure.
Duffe said in response to a comment: “I’m trying to figure out why it’s up to me to pick a starting gate? If we were in superpole then we would have been there to pick gates after it ended. Nobody informed Haiden or his manager of gate pick, which is why they weren’t there. I wasn’t there because I’m the mechanic not the schedule co-ordinator.”
Hopefully things are more clear for everyone in Australia when Deegan will also have Eli Tomac and Cooper Webb on the line!
