Jo Shimoda’s encouraging run of form in the 2026 AMA Pro Motocross Championship has come to a frustrating halt after the Japanese rider crashed during qualifying at Southwick.
After improving with each round since returning to racing, Shimoda was beginning to look close to his very best again. However, disaster struck during qualifying when he suffered a heavy crash that has ruled him out of the remainder of the weekend.
Honda has since confirmed that Shimoda sustained a fractured collarbone as well as a mild concussion. The team has not put a timeline on his return, with the rider currently sidelined indefinitely.
Honda released the following statement: “Jo Shimoda is out indefinitely with a fractured collarbone and mild concussion following a qualifying crash at Southwick”.
It’s a bitter blow for both Shimoda and Honda, with the former 250MX title contender showing steady progress in recent weeks after working his way back from previous injury setbacks. The hope will now be for a smooth recovery before he can resume his 2026 campaign.
