RUMOUR: Nico Greutmann to make the move up to the MXGP World Championship in 2026?

It was a strong 2025 season for Swiss talent, Nico Greutmann, who impressed throughout the EMX250 series. Despite missing the opening round, the young rider still managed to finish a fantastic fourth in the championship, proving his consistency and speed at European level.

However, with the U21 age rule in place for the EMX250 class, Greutmann will not be eligible to contest the series again next season. This officially brings an end to his time with the Cat Moto Bauerschmidt Husqvarna team and leaves him facing a big career decision – whether to move up to the MX2 World Championship or make the bold jump directly into MXGP.

Given his size and physical build, a move to the premier MXGP class appears to make the most sense, and it’s understood that this is indeed the path Greutmann has decided to take.

For 2026, a new team in the paddock, Meuwissen Motorsports, will be receiving support from MX Academy Honda, which is based in Switzerland. It would be logical for the new outfit to bring in a Swiss rider, and it’s believed that Greutmann is set to sign with Meuwissen Motorsports for the upcoming season.

The plan is expected to see Greutmann contest the European rounds of the MXGP World Championship, gaining valuable experience at the highest level. It will also mean that Greutmann will make the switch to Honda machinery.

The move to the 450cc class could suit Greutmann perfectly, and while he’ll be one of the youngest riders in MXGP, 2026 will primarily be a learning year as he adjusts to the intensity and demands of racing against the world’s best.

If he adapts quickly, the Swiss rider could be one to watch in the years ahead as he begins his journey in the premier class. He made his MXoN debut this year representing Switzerland so he’ll be hoping that’s the first MXoN appearance of many.
